Chisel

Smooth rounds a whole model with one radius. Every join, edge and bevel sharper than the radius rounds up to it.

a box with two holes and a knob, rounded all over by Smooth

A shape takes one Smooth at most: adding a second reports “already has a Smooth modifier” and does nothing. Smooth is pinned when added, but it reaches every join of the model wherever it sits in the stack. It is left out of the panel’s Modifiers count.

Settings

the Smooth modifier in the panel

SettingDefaultRangeWhat it does
Radius0.02 m0 and up (soft 2)The smallest radius anything in the model may have. 0 turns Smooth off
ProfileRoundRound / Sharp / Soft / Tight / ChamferThe profile of every join Smooth rounds; see Profiles
Smooth (Chamfer only)0 m0 and up (soft 0.5)Rounds the sharp edges of the chamfer
Override AlloffOff: a fillet already wider than Radius keeps its own radius and profile. On: the radius and profile are forced onto everything, wider fillets included

What it reaches

  • boolean and carve joins
  • bisect cut edges
  • mirror seams and array joins (radius only; these keep their own profile)
  • emboss and engrave edges, outer and inner
  • each shape’s own edge rounding, and the bevel on prisms, trapezoids and oblongs
  • the corners of a Lathe’s profile

A single shape with no joins smooths too: Smooth rounds its edges.

Not affected: the depth of an emboss or engrave, the corner radii of a polyline bisect, and the corner rounding of an Ngon.

Pie menu

The pie’s East wedge has a Smooth row: the five profile icons, the radius and an All toggle (Override All). Click the radius to drag it; the radius shows beside the cursor.
