Lattice
Lattice deforms a shape with a cage of points. A new Lattice fits a 3 × 3 × 3 cage to the shape’s bounds. It is added at the bottom of the stack, just above any pinned modifiers, so it deforms the shape after the other modifiers have applied. Parts of the shape outside the cage do not move.

Settings

| Setting | Default | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Points X / Y / Z | 3, 3, 3 | 2–8 each | Cage points per axis. Changing a count rebuilds the cage at rest, dropping every point you moved |
| Interpolation | B-Spline | Linear / Cardinal / B-Spline / Catmull-Rom | How the shape moves between the points. B-Spline is the smoothest; the others follow the points more closely |
| Fit Cage | Refits the cage to the shape’s current bounds; every point goes back to rest | ||
| Reset Points | Returns every point to rest; the cage box stays where it is | ||
| Info line | Drag the cage dots in the viewport to sculpt the field |
Cage handles

With the shape active and selected and the Chisel tool active, each Lattice’s cage draws as a violet wireframe with a dot on every point.
| Handle | Looks like | Drag or click | Keys while dragging |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cage point | Violet dot (blue when selected in Edit, red at the fold limit) | Drag a cage dot to move it; the shape deforms to follow the cage. The dot moves parallel to the view, and the drag shows no value. Space, Enter or releasing the mouse confirms; RMB or Esc puts the point back | |
| Cage | Violet wireframe through the points | Display only |
In the Chisel tool’s Edit state, cage points select like the points of a shape: click, Shift-click or drag a box. Drag one of the selected points, or press G, to move them all; the group stops at the fold limit together. Cage points cannot be removed.
Switch the handles with Lattice in the tool header’s gizmo drop-down, or Render Properties ▸ Gizmos ▸ Modifiers ▸ Lattice.
Folding
A cage pushed past the point where it folds over itself breaks the surface into speckled holes and slows the render.
- While you drag, the point stops at the fold limit and its dot turns red.
- A cage that is already folded (from an old file, or after switching interpolation) draws all its dots red, and the modifier shows a warning in the panel, in its header and in the pie:
This cage folds — the deformation has no inverse, so the shape breaks up here. Reset Points, or try a smoother interpolation.
Reset Points or a switch to B-Spline clears it. Preferences ▸ Debug ▸ Lattice Fold Guard turns the drag’s stop off.
Pie menu
The pie’s East wedge has a Lattice row: the three point counts and the interpolation, with a warning sign when the cage folds.
